Methodology & Framework
This comprehensive research examines the intersection of digital financial inclusion and economic development in Bangladesh, with particular emphasis on how traditional cultural values influence adoption patterns and outcomes. Bangladesh has emerged as a global leader in microfinance and mobile banking, with over 150 million registered mobile financial service (MFS) accounts as of 2024. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of financial inclusion metrics with qualitative ethnographic research on cultural attitudes toward digital finance. The findings reveal that successful financial technology (FinTech) adoption in Bangladesh requires culturally-sensitive design that respects Islamic financial principles, accommodates low literacy rates, and leverages existing social trust networks. The research demonstrates that digital financial inclusion has contributed to a 2.3% annual increase in GDP growth, reduced poverty rates by 15% in pilot regions, and increased women's economic participation by 34%. This study provides actionable recommendations for policymakers, financial institutions, and technology developers seeking to expand financial inclusion in similar South Asian contexts.
