Methodology & Framework
The transition toward digital-first political campaigning in Bangladesh has introduced unprecedented challenges to information integrity. During the 13th National Parliamentary Election cycle, the emergence of synthetic media and sophisticated deception tactics created a volatile information ecosystem. Methodology: This study employs a quantitative research design, analyzing a consolidated dataset of verified misinformation cases from January to April 2026. Data were aggregated from leading fact-checking entities, including Rumor Scanner, Dismislab, and FactWatch, to identify patterns in content type, distribution hotspots, and technological origin. Findings: The research verified a total of 2,402 cases of misinformation within the four-month period. A critical shift was observed in the deployment of technology, with 416 cases (17.3%) identified as AI-generated, including deepfakes and voice-cloned media. Political misinformation accounted for 75% of the total volume. Furthermore, the study identifies a systematic trend of Media Impersonation, where bad actors replicated the visual identities of established news broadcasters (e.g., Jamuna TV, NTV, Banglavision) to lend false credibility to fabricated narratives. Geographic analysis revealed 7 district hotspots that served as primary nodes for misinformation surges. Conclusion: The findings suggest that Bangladesh has entered a new era of "Information Warfare," characterized by the normalization of generative AI as a tool for political manipulation. The report concludes that traditional fact-checking must be augmented with AI-driven detection.
